Dr. Joseph Swift Handmade Bassoon Reeds

Swift reeds are handcrafted and wonderfully responsive reeds which exhibit a full and vibrant sound across all registers. Whereas most bassoon reeds carry one dominant overtone frequency, Swift reeds have multiple strong frequencies which translates to a sound rich in tonal color and clarity. This reed style developed from the maker's experiences as an orchestral, chamber, and solo performer, utilizing the same reed for every setting and chair. This versatile reed is play tested by an active professional bassoonist on a Fox 660 bassoon and a Leitzinger mf1 bocal.

Praised for his “soaring expression” and “impressive technical command” (IDRS Journal 46, No 2), bassoonist Joseph Swift enjoys a varied career as a performer, educator, and recording artist.

Joseph currently serves as principal bassoon of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and second bassoon at the Chamber Orchestra of New York, and has performed throughout the United States, Germany, Canada, and United Kingdom as an orchestral and chamber musician. He has performed with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, American Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of New York, New Haven Symphony Orchestra, Ann Arbor Symphony, and Napa Festival Orchestra among others. He also earned a Silver Medal in the Senior Wind Division with the Vanguard Reed Quintet at the 2018 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
